🎙️ Are you waiting for the perfect notebook?

Hey Reader,

I recently started a 28-day sketchbook challenge, and immediately hit a wall that had nothing to do with drawing. It was a powerful reminder of how we can get in our own way. More in this week's lab notes.

Dear Creativity,

I started a tiny sketchbook challenge this month—just 10 minutes of drawing a day. But before I even began, the multipassionate perfectionism set in. Which notebook should I use? Should I buy something new? The love of new supplies, the desire for the perfect setup, put a hold on something that was meant to be simple and joyful.

Once I finally let go, grabbed a notebook I already had, and just started... everything changed.

I take 10-minute breaks all the time. Why not a creative break, too?

It’s a simple shift, but it feels profound. Instead of waiting for a big block of inspiration, I’m learning to schedule a small rendezvous with you, Creativity, throughout the day. The possibilities are endless. I just have to be willing to commit and show up, imperfectly and all.

What if the creative life we want isn't found in a grand plan, but in a simple, 10-minute "yes" today?

Innovatively yours,
Dr. Abigail 💛

Hey Reader, Three years ago, I had a swirl of ideas so big, it’s still unspooling. This photo captures a moment from back then, and it holds a powerful lesson I'm carrying into my work today. More in this week's lab notes. Untangling my jar of ribbons into a rainbow. Dear Creativity, When I first started what is now The Innovation Doctor, I had a chaotic, beautiful swirl of ideas. I was building a community, designing challenges, and trying to find the right path forward. It felt a lot like...

Hey Reader, Lately, on my morning walks, I've found myself drawn back into an old practice: macro photography. It's coinciding with a book I'm reading and a challenge I'm doing, and all signs are pointing to one powerful idea. More in this week's lab notes. Morning walk. Two flower perspectives. Dear Creativity, On my morning walks, I've found myself getting closer to the world again, which means my photo gallery on my cell phone is filling up with macro shots. It happens to be at the same...

Hey Reader, Three years into The Innovation Doctor, I’ve been looking back at the seed that started it all. It wasn't a straight line. This week's lab notes are about the beautiful detour that led me here. Edstoria was born in 2018 as a place to help educator's imaginations take root and creativity take flight. Dear Creativity, I don't think there was ever a time we weren't in conversation. But looking back, our partnership has had distinct seasons. When I first took the brave step of leaving...
