Hey Reader, Some people crochet. Others knit. I've discovered my meditative activity, and it involves a pile of stickers and a simple notebook. More on this discovery in this week's lab notes. Dear Creativity, I've finally found my meditative activity: junk journaling. It started with the guilt of holding on to piles of beautiful stickers. I didn't have the conviction to commit them to a laptop or water bottle, so they just sat there. Now, I have a place for them. There is nothing more satisfying than peeling the back off a sticker and giving it a home in my journal. It's become a ritual. I thumb through the pages, feel the smoothness of the stickers, and connect to the memories they hold—where I was, who I was with, the significance of the event. It clears the clutter and quiets the guilt. Now, instead of a pile of potential, I have pages of joy. It’s a tangible archive of my connection to you and my community, and I can't wait to see what inspiration these pages bring next. What "clutter" are we holding onto that's just waiting to be turned into a joyful, creative practice? Innovatively yours, “From the Studio” is where The Innovation Doctor shares her weekly lab notes. The call-in lines are always open. If you have a question or a story for the Doctor, you can leave a message for her right here. |

Hey Reader, I recently started a 28-day sketchbook challenge, and immediately hit a wall that had nothing to do with drawing. It was a powerful reminder of how we can get in our own way. More in this week's lab notes. A tiny sketch of my snake plant that is giving life, no matter how much I ignore it. Dear Creativity, I started a tiny sketchbook challenge this month—just 10 minutes of drawing a day. But before I even began, the multipassionate perfectionism set in. Which notebook should I...
Hey Reader, Three years ago, I had a swirl of ideas so big, it’s still unspooling. This photo captures a moment from back then, and it holds a powerful lesson I'm carrying into my work today. More in this week's lab notes. Untangling my jar of ribbons into a rainbow. Dear Creativity, When I first started what is now The Innovation Doctor, I had a chaotic, beautiful swirl of ideas. I was building a community, designing challenges, and trying to find the right path forward. It felt a lot like...
