Hey Reader, The work I'm doing on my new zine has unlocked something profound—a memory that has reshaped my entire business. I'm excited to share it with you in this week's letter from the studio. Dear Creativity, This is it. For weeks, I’ve been untangling signals, evolving the vibe I want to bring to the world. It all started with a simple idea for a zine. Working on this little paper book, I realized I wasn't just creating something new. I was re-discovering my 7-year-old self—the girl who self-published storybooks, written, illustrated, and bound with string and duct-taped cardboard. That memory changed everything. It gave me permission to build the business I was always meant to have: a "speakeasy for ideas," a space so special that when the doors open, you know you have to be in the room. A space built on fun, magic, and the joy of unraveling ideas. This little zine led me to setting up this studio, learning new tools, testing YouTube streams, and gearing up to launch The Idea Edit™—a place where we edit ideas down to small, actionable experiments. This picture is the messy truth. It’s the Lab and the Studio coming together. The secret invitations are almost ready. I have the ideas, and I have you. What powerful part of ourselves are we just waiting to rediscover? Innovatively yours, "From the Studio” is a weekly letter from The Innovation Doctor. The call-in lines are always open. If you have a question or a story for the Doctor, you can leave a message for her right here. |
The official letter from The Innovation Doctor. Your weekly prescription of practical creativity to get your ideas unstuck.
Hey Reader, Three years into The Innovation Doctor, I’ve been looking back at the seed that started it all. It wasn't a straight line. This week's lab notes are about the beautiful detour that led me here. Edstoria was born in 2018 as a place to help educator's imaginations take root and creativity take flight. Dear Creativity, I don't think there was ever a time we weren't in conversation. But looking back, our partnership has had distinct seasons. When I first took the brave step of leaving...
Hey Reader, I'm in the middle of running my Next Move Incubator, and this week, my own participants taught me a powerful lesson about my own next idea. More in this week's letter. Cover page of my 8-page zine lo-fi prototype in progress. Dear Creativity, Three weeks into my incubator, it was time for me to move on my own idea: a polished digital zine, a small step toward a future book. I was ready to dive deep. And then, I was humbled. The participants in my own program encouraged me to move...
Hey Reader, I was all geared up to host a live play experience in my community this week... and it turned into something completely different. I wrote about the beautiful lesson I learned from a party for one. Explorong my new Ohuhu alcohol markers with my A brighther year tiny coloring book. Dear Creativity, Last week, I planned a "Pop-Up Play Lab" for my community, a delightful hour of coloring and conversation. I was so excited. And then, no one was able to make it. For a moment, I was...
